Almost all companies, large or small, have an Information Technology — or IT — department that handles all the technical issues that arise. The Tech department is one of the most important departments in the business. They are in control of classified files, social media, and the company website. They also make sure everything is running smoothly on the technology side. If there is an issue with the website, the IT guy will come and try and fix it to the best of his ability.
Some major functions of this department are governance, infrastructure, functionality. Governance refers to the implementation of operational parameters for working units and individuals’ use of IT systems, architecture, and networks. The governance of the master data is based on workflow processes that integrate business rules and subject matter domain expertise. This is part of the conventional IT security as well as the data assurance for which the IT department is also responsible. Infrastructure refers to the hardware components, the network, the circuitry, and all other equipment necessary to make an IT system function according to the established needs and system “size” of the company. Functionality is perhaps the most apparent task performed by the IT department. It refers to creating and maintaining operational applications; developing, securing, and storing electronic data that belongs to the organization; and assisting in the use of software and data management to all functional areas of the organization.
The tech department also oversees everything that gets installed in the building. If a new computer is being put in, they are the ones who help install it and make sure that it is working correctly. They make sure all of the proper hardware is in the computers so that everyone can work efficiently and with the newest operating system.
Trends are a big part of businesses. The tech department is in charge of staying on those trends so that they can reach out and get the attention of most people. People follow trends more than anything else, so if your business stays on the newest trends, it will be more successful than a business that is late. Update your website whenever you have a new product and make it modernized. If you have a really boring, dull, and outdated website, it is very unappealing to the public and they will probably leave the website before even looking at your product. Update your website with new pictures, different menus to look through, social media tags, etc.
Quite often, companies see the main role of the IT department as creating applications that serve its core business needs. The right applications allow a business to be innovative, more productive, efficient, and to move ahead of its competitors. In many ways, this makes the IT department crucial to the success of a business.
I can relate to this blog post because I feel that the company website and social media are the most important things to run a business correctly. Making your website look good will take some time, but it is all worth it because more and more people will visit it and share it with other people. The social media posts also grab people’s attention, so making them look good and approachable by all people is important. Keep the captions short and to the point so that people don’t get bored. Include a Call to Action where people can get a discount if they click the link in your bio. This will increase sales and make more people check out your website. I plan on working with the marketing department to make this happen so we can get more sales in the future. This was a really good reading because it helped me see what the tech department really does in a big business and gave me some good ideas on how to better run the tech department in DireLights.
